I am looking for two back up lights, preferably ones where I can attach bolt snaps to the end of them. They would be on my left and right chest strap clipped to my shoulder D-rings, and held down by the rubber tubing.

My initial impulse was to go for the Intova 4.7 watt Cree torch, the concentrated beam version. I've read great things about this light, but wanted to see if anyone had any other suggestions, as to a better light for the money.

Thanks!

I have 2 intovas I use for a back up in caves. I use the Intova as a primary for OW night dives. Great light!!! If I had to change I would look at the OMS vega or something by Oxycheq. I buddy of mine has the vega and ran over it with a truck and it still works and no leaks.

I absolutely love the Oxycheq Raider IV -- when it's working. But a good many of those lights were delivered nonfunctional, and one of the two we had that worked has now failed, so I sadly have to warn against them as a choice.

We have Halcyon Scouts with an eLED module upgrade, and a Photon Torpedo with the LED upgrade, and a Salvo Rat, Jr. (no longer available) and those are all good lights. My Dive Rite 1W failed, and EVERYTHING we have bought that has had a switch of any kind has eventually failed.

I use the Intova (the older, one watt model) and have no heartburn with them. They've been 100% reliable and never flooded in several hundred dives. I do know of two folks who've managed to snag the tiny lip on the switch and pull it out of the light (the switch magnet is held in place against the body by a press-in plastic housing with a plastic switch on top of it. The switch is not quite flush with the housing - which makes it easier to use but possible to snag) The good news is that if you do pull the switch out and manage to catch all the pieces it's just a matter of stacking them in the right order and pressing them back into the housing to fix it. :)

Exactly.. Mine will go nowhere as long as they work. Great little lights.

I'm carrying one Photon Torpedo (LED) and one Dorcy 180. I *did* have a Dorcy flood on me (through the lens, not where the body meets the head) on a 160' dive. The light was replaced quickly (and at no cost to me) and I was assured this was a rare happening. That said, if I have another issue, I'm changing lights. The PT has been rock solid for years. It's just too big for the right side of my harness.

This is one of the reasons why I keep marching through backup lights . . . looking for a focused, bright, small and RELIABLE light! I thought I had it in the Raider, but sadly, no.
