Has anyone had any success with Subsurface and the Shearwater Petrel? I'm having trouble getting it to connect for downloads, and I really want to stick with Subsurface rather than moving to proprietary logging software from Shearwater.

Subsurface says the petrel is supported, although I do find a record of problems in an older version of the software. It said at the time that Shearwater was working with one of the Subsurface contributors; so I am hoping the problem got fixed.

Anyone here have experience with using Subsurface and the Petrel?

Hi kelemvor,

I have used subsurface successfully with the Petrel many times.

You need to pair the Petrel with your operating system first. Users of Shearwater Desktop should note that pairing is not needed (and can sometimes cause problems) when using Shearwater Desktop. You can do this in Windows using the "Add a Device" option in the control panel.

Pair using the code 0000.

Once paired, determine the COM port by right clicking on the Petrel icon and going to Properties->Services.

In subsurface, you should now be able to download using the COM port determined above.

Hi guys,

I've got my petrel and petrel 2 paired with my ubuntu 14.10. When I'm trying to access any of them from subsurface, it doesn't connect. I had a hard time to get the old petrel paired (both have firmware V28) so I had to install blueman.
I tried as well connecting them to serial port dev\rfcomm0 without any luck.
Any ideas?
Thanks for your time and help
Miguel
