I would find very handy a link to 'subscription' on the homepage, maybe with the 'private message' one.

Yes, it is the first thing I check on SB. I would be able to access it in one click from the home page. (picky piccky isn't it?)
Don't bother too much with this, just an idea.

How about you changing your SB homepage to this (the User CP)?

It will tell you straight away what you need to know.
