Hi. I'm considering these two computers and need some advice - I'm new to diving and my girlfriend and I will be heading to Curacao in March. We just bought regs, and other gear, and I need a computer. I realize the two computers I mention are quite different, one being air integrated. The pricing is obviously an issue, too. $600 vs. $350 for the XP-10. I've read the owner's manual for both. My local dive shop wants to sell me the XP-10 and says Oceanic left a bad taste in his mouth after an issue with a warranty repair on a regulator. If anyone has experience with either of these machines, please give me your impression. Is one easier to use, is the Pro Plus worth the extra money. Any experiences with the durability of either? Thanks in advance

mountain pic,
I haven't used either comp, but the difference in air integrated vs wrist mount is worthy of discussion. I used to use air integrated until I moved to a wrist mount due to teaching.

With air integrated you are:
- stuck with having a computer stuck to a reg. Say if you were to use a rented reg you would be with out a computer unless u bring your AI comp.
- troublesome to look at for bottom time/air pressure/depth vs having it on you wrist
-you are able to maximise you dive time (assuming your partner share s similiar consumption rate), as the computer will tell you exactly how much bottom time you have at that current depth before running out of air.
- wrist mount allows for only one watch to be worn during the trip
- if the battry runs out for the AI, you will not be able to use the regs. where as if a wrist mount died, you can still use your tables.
- wrist mount is jsut easier to carry around/check logs and less likely to get damaged unless you can detach your AI comp.

happy shopping!
happy holidays!
and happy new years fellow Scubaboarders!

First thing you need to do is determine whether you want a wrist or console mounted PC. I didn't consider this enough and found out I was wrong when I got a console PC. One tip, if you are a watch wearer and chronic watch checker (like me) - you are going to want to do the same thing underwater.

This is the most recent discussion on the matter, http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/computers-gauges-watches-analyzers/362880-console-vs-wrist.html

I'm sure there are many other if you searched.

And no offense to your dive shop but I wouldn't dismiss Oceanic because one guy had one problem with them (does this shop by chance sell Oceanic gear?). They are generally considered a very good company. My wife and I have a fair amount of Oceanic and Aeris equipment and none of it has let us down.

I have the Pro Plus and am a watch wearer. I like the Pro Plus due to the large display and air integration. I also have the QD so I can store mine when not diving. I got mine to replace my Versa Pro which was console mounted. I never find myself wanting to look at my wrist when diving even though I do it on dry land with my watch. I boils down to preference. Make a pro and con list and if you can afford it don't worry about the price. This is a piece of equipment that you should have for years to come and price shouldn't factor in. You wouldn't be looking at a Pro Plus if you couldn't afford it.
