. I’m always guilty of overthinking things.

Considering this is life support equipment, it's one of teh many things that one can't overthink in my book. For example, I'm looking at the subgravity paragon setup as well after looking at about 3 years of scubaboard data.
Having done the math, keep in mind that the single-tank combo with the 6mm plate saves you enough cash to get the 3mm plate too and come out about even if you're just buying parts. So if you think you ever might want the 6mm plate, get it in the combo and get the 3mm plate a la carte.
