I do like the idea of the 6lb plate, but that might stick with a 3mm for now, just for the cost.
A ~3mm stainless backplate typically weighs 5-6lb. 6lb = 3mm. Is that what you meant or are you thinking those are two different things?

The only heavier backplates I've seen are the 6mm subgravity stainless plates, weighing in at around 10 pounds.

No, I am just a Grade A Dingus™. Meant to say "6mm plate", not "6lb." Thanks, I'll correct it now!

Fair point, that advice only applies to typical plate dimensions and typically shaped adult males. I was being overly general.

The main takeaway here is that I told my wife several times that all backplates are the same and was quickly proven wrong when she tried one on. Now I never get to live that down 😬

I put all of my stuff together from random sources including cardboard boxes in the shed, I haven’t seen the sub gravity stuff up close but it looks great. The DGX stuff I have is always excellent and their complete package is a great way to go and the price is pretty amazing.

I have that 6mm Subgravity plate. And it is awesome for cold water drysuit diving. But it’s kind of unwieldy when you’re not diving it- stuff like rinsing it out or sliding it over a tank is just a little more awkward with the extra weight. So, there is a little downside besides price (but certainly not in the way it dives)

That is def a concern. I had so much weight in my old BC in on this last trip and moving from one tank to another between dives on a rolling rocking boat was "fun". Definitely can see where the 6mm plate would also be a challenge.

Add a loop to hang it like a B/C has.

Yep, that's a great idea. Deep6 has one on their wings. Might look at that wing when they're back in stock.
