I inherited a box of scuba gear. One piece being a Sub-Aquatic Systems 1st Stage, serial #: 477011. I have yet to build it up with 2nd stages to see if it works at all. I don't know much about these regs besides they were made in Calif and were sometimes marketed under other names. Anyone out there able to help me determine if it is worth messing with, are there rebuild kits available?

Bring it to the LDS and ask them. I would not worry about the age as I have several friends that swear by their mid 1970's regs and refuse to update.

I agree with your friends, most of my gear is mid 70's thru 80's. Problem is the LDS's would rather sell new regs than work on old units and its hard to find a resource for rebuild kits. If I could find a kit for this new reg, I'd be good to go.

Found the same problem local shop has no interest.I did find a place to get my old sub-pro regs fixed.so i'm thinking that there must be a place for S.A.S. I'LL KEEP LOOKING!

Odds are you are not going to find anyone who will repair it unless they were a dealers from days of old and still have parts around, liability issues. On the other hand it's very likely it's a clone of some major brand and parts can be substituted from a different brand or generic orings can be used. This is something you will have to do on your own, not likely any shop will do it due to liability issues. Still, a great chance to learn a little DIY reg servicing.
