So... the problem with TTL, it would appear, is that the housing I have, (PT-015), doesn't seem to support it.

Compared to a PT-020 housing - see :

I don't have that metal connection on top, so I'm a bit confused. Am I missing something obvious here? Best I can tell, the PT-015 just doesnt support a TTL option... How would you connect the strobe to the camera itself? Adding to my confusion is that apparently, people with an INON D2000 and PT-015 use them together...

See: http://www.scubaboard.com/archive/index.php/t-100154.html

So I'm a little lost, maybe there's something basic about TTL that I just dont understand.[/QUOTE]

The hot shoe has a cover on it that simply slides off on the top of the camera..Using a wired sync cord gives you advantage that you can shut off the internal strobe thereby saving battery power and the inside of the housing would not heat up and perhaps start fogging the housing. You can either hunt down an ikelite housing somewhere(no longer made, but there is someone on the board trying to get ike to produce a few)or have converter put into your present housing.its not just a port but has electronics in it to make system work.

You are correct, the PT-015 housing does not have a bulkhead that will allow you to connect the camera's hotshoe to an external strobe for TTL. With the 5050/PT-015 combination, strobes are manually controlled. Heinrich, in Germany, manufactured a gizmo that slides into the hot shoe and a pickup that attaches to the outside of the housing. I'll look around and see if I can find a link - I don't know if it's still available.

Having said that, I found manual control Ikelite strobes to give me excellent results with my 5050/PT-015. TTL is highly over-rated as the camera is often confused by background light u//w.

Here: click on "gallery" and then select "Olympus TTL converter with IR link".

I too found manual control works fine also..I grew up using a original nikonos(calypso) then went to nik 2 (have 4 of them)and then nik 5.(use 3 of them).still shoot at times in manual..ttl has its benefits also and is simply an additional tool in a bag of tricks.

Ok ordered D2000 :)

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.
