I'm sure this has been covered ad nauseum, but I can't seem to find quite what I'm looking for. My apologies in advance if I've missed something!

I'm moving into the world of shooting w/ a strobe (have a D2000, Type 3 arriving today), and would like to know the best way to mount the thing. I've got the AD Mount Base & Grip Base DIII for my A570IS/WP-DC12, and I'm really not quite sure what direction to go in so far as arm's are concerned.

For the time being, i'll be doing mostly macro stuff (important detail, i'm sure). I found a sticky for placement of arms/strobes over on Wet Pixel, but it wasn't quite what I'm looking for.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, again!

It's hard to go wrong with ULCS. That's what I use to connect my D2000 to my Ikelite handle.

I use:

Double ball arm segments

* DB-03 - very short arm, look like small dumbells, used for macro photography
* DB-05 - short arm, used for macro photography

Clamps - These clamps are what holds the system together and gives it flexibility. Think of your own arms with the three joints and that is in essence what you have with your strobe arm

* AC-CSF - This new style clamp is constructed slightly different than the original clamp. This clamp allows 15 degrees side to side movement of the balls.

You sir are a life-saver! Thanks for the quick response, I'm definitely moving in the right direction now.

Next question, what attaches the arm to the strobe? A double-ball arm segment? Stupid question I'm sure, but I don't have the strobe in hand yet & I'm being a tad anal about figuring all this out before I do.

Call ULCS directly, or call Ryan at Reef Photo and tell him what arm you have, and they'll be able to point you to the correct adapter.

Second CompuDude.

I use a similar ULCS set up for my D2000w, but I have a single 8" arm for the strobe and a triple clamp on my non-detachable handle that I use for the addition of a 5" arm and a video light. Reef Photo is also a solid dealer, that has taken good care of me the 3 or so times I've used them.

Thanks again for the help everyone, you all are saving me a ton of work! haha.

Last question, how do I mount the arms to Inon's "Grip Base DIII"? Inon America had a great example of how these things work, but seeing as how they are AWOL, I can't go by that anymore.

Jack, I appreciate the offer, but I prefer to go w/ the cut-out arms so I can mount lenses.

Hi guys! I'm new to the forums and new to diving and underwater photo taking. My wonderful wife got me a sealife dc800 for my b-day, only tried it in the pool so far and works great!! I tried my buddies strobe and surprisingly it worked. My question is, the sealife calls for a digital pro flash (SL961) which comes with a fibre optic cable hook up, is it worth getting this strobe? Will the cable make the camera perform that much better or should I just invest in the same strobe as my buddies' which appears bigger?

If you have one of these: INON Grip Base DIII with Rubber Grip #456212143224

It looks like you use the little "ball on a pole on a base" thingie to start things off: INON Multi Direct Base II #456212143103
