I lost the buckle(square metal thing on a watch strap) for my Oceanic OCS. It popped off while I was attempting to put my computer on. I called the LDS and they mentioned I would have to purchase a new wrist strap assembly for this which is $40. Is this true? I don't want to spend $40 for a tiny piece of metal.

Had it failed during a dive, the cost might have been 10X that.

This is a good warning. Get rid of that strap and replace it with a couple of bungees. I'm not sure how. exactly, but it looks to me like pins come out on each side to remove (or replace) the strap. Looks like you could re-insert the pins and use the resultant slots to install a couple pieces of bungee. Using two independent straps greatly reduces the chance of loss. And it will be easier to don and doff than those damn buckles.

MangoCochile,

I just so happen to have one of those little guys lying around here that I could toss in an envelope and mail to you. It would be just the little clasp, pin and tongue for $6.50 plus $0.50 for postal. OCS Clasp.jpg If you are interested just let me know I am happy to help.
