That was going to be my next guess…just heard back from a tank specialist - hes seen it 2-3 time and reckons its moisture left in tank from last hydro causing microscopic rust particles that have gathered around the valve from crystal lube or hand grease
tank hasn't been used fro 2-3 months
inside of the tank is clean, stuff just around the valve
That is a "sheet ton" of grease on that valve in places that shouldn't have grease. I am dubious of the "tank is clean" conclusion. I would start from scratch, light tumble and wash with simple green, completely disassemble and wash the valve. extremely unlikely no other tanks have it ( ones that ive checked -im checking dil tanks today )"moisture left in tank from last hydro"
Why would this happen? Can't they dry the cylinders? Not much more than compressed air is required.
Are you sure your compressor is not to blame?
