Realy? Did you know then, that there is a ban on any new water meters in Maui? Has been for several years. No new homes. Somehow though the resorts always seem to have plenty as do the golf courses.
If you want support for causes then post facts and not "they are going to destroy the whole reef!" Id like to hear exactly what they have in mind.

...(like how he basically negated 9 of the 10 ammendments to the constitution this week by signing the Military Commissions Act of 2006...but don't get me started).

oh yea? Well, our Marines are getting dropped like flys and they cannot return fire unless they know the identity of the shooters.... but don't worry, wouldn't want to upset any terrorists. How come you aren't boo hooing about the fine men who being sniped from afar by cowards too spineless to do anything but blow up civilians?

Why don't you put yourself on the line---for whatever you believe?

Golf courses--- Steve, are they a major source for run-off pollution? I think they are... Yes, the development needs some informed planning. Santa Barbara has had a painful and rigorous process but has modeled some successful projects.

I too, am upset by the random willy nilly development over here. For example: they just put water-front storage buildings in Hawaii Kai. Prime property on the water...commercial storage. And I am sick of them building on hill tops, bulldozing with no regards to catchment and run-off. Very poor planning over here. At least that Shark's Cove mall did not go through. Actually it did---correct me if I am wrong, please, someone. I heard the hui threatened the developers family and he finally gave up. Underwater cavern systems....was going to be a parking structure. Geez, God help us.

In a bit of good news the Dow Jones is at 12000 for the first time and gas is going down, maybe i can afford a trip to beautiful hawaii

hey---I saw that! AND it seems to be solid they say.

Seems like it happened fast, almost overnight. And this is OCTOBER!

Aren't things usually dipping in October?

low fuel, no interest rate hikes. I don't really miss Greenspan.

With regard to W, to my knowledge I'm only a fan of 3 things he's done and I only found out about the third one minutes ago. The other was his addicted to oil speech, which must have miffed the Oil exec's pulling his strings. This needs to be people not parties, if W stands with us he's with us, and that would definately be a stranger thing.

It's time for a line in the sand!
That was, "addicted to foreign oil" as in: "Lets suck all the american oil out of ANWR and let our american oil companies and their support base (Halliburton, etc.) make money instead of those terrorist supporting foreigners."

Yep, you got it, right on the spot..... AND WHATS WRONG WITH THAT?
Geez people, take Economy 101 would ya....
We have plenty of oil, we should pump it....in the meantime we should develop new
fuel sources and infastructure and be not be energy dependant on the middle east.
While I disagree with W and some of the things he's done, our economy is better that it has been in a VERY LONG TIME, the deficit is smaller than during the "C" admin(contrary to what the lib media says) vertually no unemployment. AND we have someone that has a backbone and will stand up, dam, too bad he cant run again!

On the development issue, Hawaii needs(as well as other locations) a ZERO Growth Law. They continue to build the "New City" here on Oahu, but cant handle the traffic, water and power, or refuse demands that this is creating

I did, and several more courses to boot.
mrjimboalaska:
We have plenty of oil
No we don't, if we started drilling ANWR today there’d be no oil till 2013 and we’d not reach peak production (876,000 barrels a day) till 2025. Even then, ANWR would only supply 4% of our needs.

You mean since Clinton left office?

Yeah, too bad he lacks a filled cranium to go with it.

I don't think this "he is stupid" dog hunts.

Rumsfeld can go...

seriously people....look at the Crawford ranch. You don't hear much about it.

an environmental model.

My own beleif, high gas prices will force us into reality. When gas hits 4 dollars, I feel happy for the environmental impact. I know that it is tough on people...but honestly, I don't even know many people here who make their kids take the bus. It is ONE dollar for pete's sake. Stop driving those kids around at rush hour. Once the price gets high enough...we will have better lives. More centered, more mindful

Because, eventually, YOU will put your kids on the bus. We have to get real and come out of this Disneyworld mentality.
