Diver from Stockton dies in hospital after difficulties in North Yorkshire lake - Gazette Live
Tony Adams, 58, of Norton, died in hospital a week after incident :: Inquest into his death was opened today.
A diver from Stockton has died in hospital days after getting into difficulties at a North Yorkshire lake.
Tony Adams, 58, from Norton, died at James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough on Thursday, May 28.
His death came seven days after an incident at Ellerton Park, Scorton, near Richmond, where he was part of a group from Billingham-based Atlantis449 diving group.
An inquest into his death was opened and adjourned by Acting Senior Coroner Clare Bailey at Teesside Coroner’s Court today.
The court heard that Mr Adams, of Imperial Avenue, was a process worker.
Reports suggest that he was caught in ropes while diving in the lake at 7.30pm.
A spokesman for Cleveland Police said: “Mr Adams was recovered from the lake by divers from the club who performed emergency first aid before paramedics arrived.
“He was taken by air ambulance to the hospital where he remained in a critical condition until he was pronounced dead on 28 May.
“Police inquiries have been completed and there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.”
The inquest was opened and adjourned on Friday 5 June by Clare Bailey, the Coroner for Teesside.
