Very sad indeed.
It doesn't matter how many times you thought "man, that was close!" when he came to within inches of danger, you are never prepared to learn of his untimely passing.
My condolences to his family and all Aussies for the loss of a true icon.

Steve Irwin is very popular TV personality in Animal Planet. We will miss him dearly. What a crappy way to die for man like him who swam with salt water crocs...

Ive never ever seen anyone interact with a tiger shark like Steve...

R.I.P. dear Steve...you will be missed sorely.

There are old divers, and bold divers, but few old and bold divers. Makes you respect the wildlife a bit more down there.

Lets hope this incident does not damage the reputation of SCUBA diving.

I was a real fan of Steve: his work with animals and overall massive part of the australian ecology and environment. It came as such a shame and a shock to me, but at least he managed to do in his 44 years what some of us would be proud to do in 60. Commiserations to his family, but for a guy like him, could he have picked a more fitting way to go? (Not ment as an insult but as respect for the man he was.)

Very sad news indeed :(

It is very sad news, My prayers go out to his family.

WOW. Just got back from diving, and this is the first I heard of it.
I'll miss him. Condolences to his family. To many people, he pretty much defined what IS Australia.

Very sad indeed, Our condolonces to family and friends. My kids have grown up watching him and my son's screen name is croc (croc hunter was taken). His shows may have had an impact on his decision to pursue a career in the veterinary field. As an Ambassador to the animal kingdom Steve Irwin and others like him who raise our awareness and respect for the other creatures that we share our planet with play a huge roll in the ecology of our world.
