I have the previous one and was curious about the new DX-2G, so I downloaded the user manual and read through it. Apart from a faster write to the memory card when shooting in RAW a larger LCD-display and the increase in pixels not much different from the DX-1G. The major problem, the darkening of the display when shooting on Manual, has not been solved. This is probably considered a feature instead of a bug. If this problem would have been solved I would have upgraded. Now I continue with the DX-1G, which apart from this problem is a great camera. So, if you don't have a camera or are looking for an upgrade of your current camera (provided it is not a DX-1G), the DX-2G would be a good choice.

I have the DX-2G, but have not gotten it wet yet. The issue with the LCD in manual mode is indeed still there, but if you get an external focus light like the the Big Blue that problem is fixed (the focus light shuts off when the strobe fires so it doesn't affect your shot, but provides plenty of light to compose the pix). I really like the Macro Modes and have taken some very good macro shots (above water) as a test. The writing speed is actually very good and I love the Manual flash setting (I set it on manual at 1/32 power, just enough to fire my YS-27DX strobe), that way the camera is ready to shoot the next shot almost immediately. The quality of the pictures is very good to excellent (to me). I don't notice any noise (ISO 100 or ISO 200). I think the menu and controls are very good and I can access most of the settings easily. The only control I don't like is having to use the wheel on the front to adjust the F-stop in manual mode. All-in-all I think this is a very good camera and am very happy with the purchase.

when you get it in the water, we would love to see some of your pictures.

Bill

... snip ... The major problem, the darkening of the display when shooting on Manual, has not been solved. This is probably considered a feature instead of a bug.

Can you explain this display 'darkening' issue? I read the Ricoh GX200 Owner's manual and regarding shooting in the 'M' mode it states: "When the exposure value is in the range of -2EV to +2EV the brightness of the picture display changes according to the exposure value."

So does this mean that when you're shooting 'M' mode and the camera concludes that the shot is going to be underexposed (because it is unaware you've got a powerful external strobe) that it darkens the LCD display? That would be entirely aggravating and probably dissuade me from purchasing the DX-2G.

Thanks for any info.

Maybe the G10/Fisheye with no TTL in 'M' mode isn't so bad after all. :shakehead:

Yes the lcd matches the exposure so if it anticipates under exposure the lcd is dark; however thats why I suggested using an external focus light (it also helps the AF work faster).

Just got back from the Cayman Islands with my DX-2g. Images in Raw came out great!! I tried to post some pictures but file is to large.

Or G10/Ikelite with TTL in Aperture or Shutter priority for those quick "in a pinch shots" and then full manual without TTL for the shots you have time to compose. That is what I use:D

Upload some to photobucket and then embed them into a post.
