Has anyone had an experience with the resort/dive op called Sueno Del Mar? I have also looked at Mariposa lodge for accomodations and checked out West End Divers, Reef Gliders (anyone ever seen hammerheads on the 6am dive?) and they both sound decent, as well. I prefer AC in my room and I don't want to be in a herd of divers and be wearing questionable gear; I am traveling solo.

Some resorts charge the 16% tax and a 20% boat tax and others don't. Sueno Del Mar offered me a $569.00 hotel/dive deal for 3 dives daily and a night dive w/AC & oceanfront room/airport transfers for the 2nd week of January. I am on a budget but I have read really great reviews about this specific place, however, as another Scubaboard member stated: staff changes etc., can make it a different experience at any given time so he suggested that I pose this question on the forum to hopefully receive any recent feedback. I usually do AI's but I want to try something different for a change...but not so much as a dorm setting.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or feedback...cheers!

P.S. It stated on their website that they were rated #1 dive op in Rodales magazine-suppose I could do the research-ugh :-(

Hi. Although I have never stayed there, I've had dive repair work done (they also hydro tanks) and visited someone who stayed there. They have a very good reputation and I've never heard negatives about their dive op, rooms or employees. The owner is geared toward customer service, which is hard to find these days.

Sueno also has a beautiful location at the southern part of West End. Lots of eating places, bars and stuff to do within easy walking distance. You can get a water taxi right there to West Bay and its a great snorkel right out in front. The setup of the rooms reminds me of an upper class motel with balconies, which isn't a bad thing. Sounds like the price is right! I don't think you will be disappointed.

I too have never stayed there but have always heard good things about the place. I did a lot of business with them as they are or at least were a leading supplier of parts and equipment (diving) on Roatan. Nice and knowledgable people to deal with. The guests I saw around the shop seemed extremely happy. I personally don't like the location since it's so far down the crowded and busy dirt road that is West End. As Castaways said however, that makes it close to lots of stuff but still a little quieter than some places in the heart of West End.

Thanks so much for the feedback...this place really feels right to me. I wonder if they have a generator yet, though? I know they have a small bar & snacks but that just means that you get to explore local eats, etc. :D

I wouldn't hold that against them. :rofl3:

I'm not holding it against them...I was just wondering about it. Like I said, this place feels right to me but I like to compile as much research as possible so I can be informed before making a decision.

I am cruising to Roatan in March 2010 and planning on diving with Sueno Del Mar. Can anyone tell me about their boats. Do the carry oxygen etc.? Thank you
