I'm a senior marine biology major in RI and although its late, I'm going to start taking diving lessons soon. I'm going to the Virgin Islands in May to go shark fishing and would like to go diving while i'm down there. Anyone know some good sites down there or have any advice for a new diver?:D

Can't speak to the area.

As for being a new diver, repect your limits. When booking and getting on boats make the parties in charge aware of your experience level.

Oh and welcome to ScubaBoard and good luck in earning your certification.

Pete

I might say that you have already found a good resource, just not as easy to read as a tutorial, but look around this site and ask questions.

Once you start diving and are trying to see sharks in the water, it will probably reduce your desire to fish for them.

I was about to say the same thing. If you become a serious diver, you will grow to appreciate your all too rare encounters with them, and you will probably regret pulling them out of the water.

oh dont worry...i'm not completely pulling them out of the water...i'm going with a group from Nova University to collect DNA samples and tag the sharks...not fishing for the sharks to kill them...it is purely research based

Great--I was having trouble putting together the fishing and your major in the first place.
