Hey,

Thinking of upgrading the plastic buckles on my xdeep cam bands to stainless. Anyone got any tips for ensuring the buckles don't damage my painted cylinders?

My personal favourite is the aqualung/apeks “griplock” cam bands. The underside has an integrated synthetic “rubber” strip to protect the tank and provide additional grip.

As you are in the UK, they can be found relatively inexpensively (compared to USA) on eBay. See link below …

I couldn't agree with this more. The rubber protects the tank, they lock down nice and positive, and since they are quick release, much easier to switch tanks since you don't have to slide both sets of cam bands down a tank, you can just buckle them on.

Only downside is price, other than that the best cam bands I've tried so far. If they were a tad less expensive, I'd have a set on both my xdeep travel plate and my cold water steel plate, but I just switch them back and forth a couple times a year.

I always liked the idea of the QR cambands, until I saw a diver not fasten it properly and having the tank fall down when picking up the BCD.

Thankfully no regs were harmed then.
