Hey,

Thinking of upgrading the plastic buckles on my xdeep cam bands to stainless. Anyone got any tips for ensuring the buckles don't damage my painted cylinders?

The Scubapro Supercinch is my second favourite cam band, and I have more of them than any other type.

But my favourite is the Apeks/Aqualung Griplock cam band.

Apeks/AL have taken the basic design of the Supercinch and improved on it in a few ways:

1. The Griplock has “finger saving” features. A ‘2 stepped’ closing mechanism, which stops about 2/3rds of a full close and prevents the buckle jamming your fingers when you fully close it. The buckle-end has an upward curve, so they don’t chop into your fingers if you do catch them in the buckle.

The Supercinch takes getting used to, with its quick snap closing feature, and the downward curved ‘blade-like’ buckle-end design can hurt the fingers if you’re not careful.

2. The Griplock has a rubber patch on the back which makes contact with the tank. This prevents scratching painted tanks, but it’s primary function is improved grip. I have stolen this idea and attached 2mm thick adhesive rubber to the back of my SuperCinch buckles as a DIY improvement.
