I just saw this at http://www.ssiuk.com
SSI is Entering the Technical Diving Field
Fort Collins, Colorado Scuba Schools International is announcing its entry into the technical diving field. The SSI technical diving programme will include courses and products made in the SSI style, designed to sell equipment and create loyal customers for SSI dealers.
Momentum for an SSI technical diving programme has been building for several years. Affiliated dealers prefer the SSI education philosophy and instructors enjoy the SSI personalised instructional approach. They wanted SSI technical diving courses that offered the same quality, value and results.
Several SSI members are authorities in the technical diving community, so Scuba Schools International solicited their help in a feasibility study. They showed how SSIs belief in serious recreational diving transferred well to the increased demands of technical diving. For example, our education philosophy, the Diver Diamond, emphasises proper knowledge, skills, equipment and experience. Our water training method, Comfort Through Repetition, develops a high degree of ability and confidence with scuba skills. Our materials excel at simplifying complex information. Our quality assurance system, the Monitor Assessment Procedures, (the only on-site programme in the industry) fosters high-quality instruction.
Convinced that the SSI Education System could be extended seamlessly and the SSI organisation had the expertise necessary, we approved the project. A development team has been assembled, led by Project and Training Manager Steve Newman, and assisted by SSI members from around the world. This team has been gathering requirements and assessing needs. They are now creating detailed development, training and marketing plans and are developing courses, training standards, exercises and products.
There are many quality technical diving programmes on the market and we respect them all, said Gary Clark, president of Scuba Schools International. But theres still room for a programme that combines quality education and business support, the SSI way. Plus our dealers prefer to work with one company, and our instructors would appreciate paying dues to one company. Weve been evaluating the market for a while and feel the time is right.
We anticipate initial product release in the 4th quarter of 2005. SSI Dealers can expect thoughtfully designed courses, highly readable and informative student materials, and an unprecedented level of business integration that will enable them to maximise equipment sales and dive centre profitability.
Programme Features: Graphic rich student texts that make it easy to understand technical topics and promote independent learning.
A technical core approach that features Technical Foundations, Decompression Procedures, Normoxic Trimix and Advanced Decompression Procedures.
Flexible design that enables instructors to use standards pathways and combine core subjects to create a course structure that works best for their students and training environment.
Professionally designed teaching tools that will improve instructor effectiveness in both the classroom and open water environments.
Future continuing technical education products include Advanced Wreck Diving, Hypoxic Trimix, Technical Gas Blender and Rebreather.
Business development seminars that will help dive centre staff members position technical training and products and to counsel customers on technical equipment purchases.
Print and electronic marketing programmes to recruit and retain technical diving customers.
No further information about the SSI technical diving programme will be made public at this time. For more information about Scuba Schools International, please visit our website at www.diveSSI.com.
Has anybody heard anything about this? It actually caught me by suprise, because SSI always appeared to be dead set against technical diving in all their training material and I just always considered SSI to be strictly recreational, but now it looks like they are following the pack of PADI and NAUI.
I'm certified through SSI myself (Just filed for my master diver c-card today
) and the owners of my LDS are pretty good friends. I'll have to ask them about this and see if know anything.
