Hello,
I want to try to dive Squantz Pond/Candlewood Lake in New Fairfield, CT this Saturday morning. Just wondering if anyone has done any diving there? Or if anyone is interested in going? I'm a newly certified diver with a few dives under my belt already. The site sounds like a pretty easy and decent dive. Here's a link to an article on it: http://www.beneaththesea.org/TSSC/diveInfo/Candle.html Anyone interested can either leave a msg here or email me at ehfireems@hotmail.com
Regards,
Shane

Hey there. I was planning on diving those ponds when first certified. After research understood that increasing phosphate levels cause the algae to bloom and ruined visability.
For a good lake dive try westhill lake in Barkhamstead. For fun dives try Divers Cove in Essex. They do fun dives every Wednesday. Also the shop owner in Essex is a real nice guy and is not pushy when it comes to sales. If you visit him tell him Chris sent ya down. He aslo has some of the best prices for dive gear. He is very easy going.

ScubaSarus,
Thanks for the reply. Glad to hear about the algae problem before going down there to do some diving. Maybe I'll check out Barkhamstead like you had mentioned. I'd definatly like to get in the water Saturday if possible, so if anyone's interested just let me know.
Thanks,
Shane

We tried a dive on Candlewood last spring and aborted after a very short time because of the algae bloom. THe sunlight simply did not penetrate the lake and even with lights we had trouble seeing our gauges or each other. This was far from my favorite dive.

Candlewood never appealed to me for scuba, not only from the algae blooms, but also from all the reckless PWC and boaters. Don't even want to imagine what you might find at the bottom!

I used to dive it back in the early seventies. Too bad it used to have about 50' vis.But the deeperyou went the colder the water got because it was spring fed

Scubajim, Do you have any old dive maps of Candlewood that you would be willing to share?

has anyone dove candlewood lake this year?

is the algae still a problem there?
