Curses! I have spyware on my laptop, too. I was sort of wondering where all those stoopid popups were coming from! Thanks for bringing that to light.

CBulla:
My suggestion for people to keep that stuff cleaned up is to use the following programs:

adaware 6 (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/)
Spybot Search and Destroy (http://www.safer-networking.org)
CWShredder (http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/)

These are all freeware programs available to the public.

If your still having problems, feel free to PM me and we'll take it from there :)

I also use Spysweeper from webroot and Hijackthis for the problems that ad-aware does not catch.

I know what you mean... those buggers are getting more kniving (sp?) every day! Not to mention all the new viruses... its hard enough trying to keep upto date with technology let alone all these annoying programs.

Another thing that I think is worth a mention is Mozilla's Firefox browser. It has built in pop-up blockers and seems to be more secure than Internet Exploder. I believe the site is http://www.mozilla.org they also make other things like email clients too. It even seems to be faster than IE!!! Take that Microsoft!!!

I'm running AdAware, Spybot and Free surfer (to catch popups in general). These 3 seem to work for me.

Mozillas browser is nice, I like it. I personally like MyIE2 (www.myie2.com) for a tabbed browser that allows a LOT of user control :)

The google tool bar that you download for IE works very good at blocking pop-ups.

I am also getting popups that say my computer is affected with spyware. It has also changed my startup page and no matter what I do I can't reset it permanently. I've run spybot and earthlink's spykiller. I also have a Norten Symantec firewall and virus detector. I've run the virus scan online and off my compter as well as a security scan and the results were negative for virus and trojan horses. I'll try the above spykillers, but would appreciate any other advice.

The redirect/hijacker thats changing your home page should be eliminated with CWShredder. That one may pick up the pop ups. I totally concur with wstein's claim of Googles toobar, in fact I'll go so far as to say its the best on the net!
