Just saw this on OMS website. What do you think?
I have Manta straps, and they cover doesn;t even go all the way to the base.. so the spring is exposed on both sides at all times.

Do those Spring Heel Fin Straps introduce new problems?
As shown the divers Spring Heel Strap protective fabric sleeve has slipped exposing the coiled spring strap. This exposed spring has come in contact with and become entangled in a nylon guide line. Had the entanglement been a thin electrical wire or a stranded steel wire would the diver be able to cut himself free?
There is a new controversy surrounding the use of Spring Heel Straps for Fins. While these straps are supposed to offer the ultimate in entanglement free diving do they actually introduce a more dangerous scenario? While we know that any type of entanglement presents a real and present danger to any diver the coiled spring heel strap may even present an increased hazard due to its clamping power and the difficulty of cutting this strap to free you from the entanglement.
Safety Recommendation: information OMS feels that it is essential for all divers who own Spring Heel Straps to regularly inspect the outer protective fabric sleeve to verify complete coverage of the spring, both during pre-dive check and the dive to guard against entanglement hazards/
