OK, this is not going well. First off I can't find proper sized s-hooks (haven't yet been to the BIG marine supply yet). That's not the biggest issue though....

The posts on my Quattros are not actually round. There's a little step sorta thing on one side. I don't know quite how to explain this but it's shaped like a "key" on a shaft might be. Anyone with me?

In any case, if the s-ring is going to securely attach, I'll have to file this little key thing off. I'm reluctant to do that as if the spring thing doesn't fly, the fins may be shot for using the regular straps. Ugh.

I've been fighting these stupid springs for weeks, this is the third pair of fins I've tried to attach springs to and I don't want to f*** these up too.

If someone would design and market a good secure decent looking method of attaching springs to "regular" fins they'd make a big chunk of change I think.

If you cant find what you need, make it. McMaster sells 1/8" stainless rod. One of the main purposes of spring straps were failure points and no place to get hooked up on stuff. Make sure the S hooks you buy or make have no openings to get strings, cable or crap caught in them.

I finally found some hooks that were properly sized. I cobbled everything together and did 2 dives yesterday in moderate current. Worked quite well. I'd prefer them a tad tighter but usable as is. Thanks for all your help!

If I send you 100 dollars would you do mine? I am really wanting those, was trying to figure out how and not very technical.

I have seen them done with Anchor Shackles...... Look it up in McMaster website! Clean look too.. You can find this at home depot too, next to chains, the kind you hang a swing or put your dog outside with. Ahh found the link of what im talking about exactly http://www.scubaboard.com/t39227-.html.

Manta makes spring straps with a post mount. I have them on my Scuba Pro Twin Speeds which have a flat post instead of a round one. They work just fine. You can find them at Leisure Pro for a reasonable price. While I rarely buy stuff that i worry about a warranty from them, these were no problem.

It doesn't take $100.
You can see pictures and instructions in my (old) thread on spring straps for Quatros.

There are other threads on spring straps but that one has a lot of information specific to the Quatros.

There is a trade off between S hooks and anchor shackles.
If you use the S hooks and the straps are too loose switch to the shackles and it should be about right.
It works the other way also.

If you do use anchor shackles be sure to replace the pin with a stainless screw that doesn't stick out to reduce your entanglement risk, see the thread I linked above.

It's quick, easy, and they don't come apart. I bought the shackles at Home Depot. The springs from McMaster Carr, and the screw at ACE Hardware. Covered the spring with a clear tubing and Bam! Spring Straps that work. It took about 1 hour to assemble.
