As cb5150 mentioned, I have horrible knees.... I have knee pain all the time when not in the water, and am beginning to have knee pain while diving.
Splits make it possible for me to dive 4 or 5 dives a day. The biggest concern I have heard folks complain about is using them in current. In my experience, kicking faster or 'harder' doesn't work -- What I have found to work is to make my kick longer and more deliberate... not faster. I have had no trouble doing as well as other divers in currents with my splits.
