Have never been priviledged enough to capture shots of whales underwater but I've seen plenty from above (humpback, fin, minke and pilot). I even snorkeled with pilot whales off the Canary Islands. I've never seen a sperm whale though and would really like to some day.

Again those shots are tremendous!

Yes, I saw blue whales in the Sea of Cortez a few years ago and we had two pass right by the Avalon Harbor mouth (and Dive Park) last year. Plenty of other sightings mid-Channel last year. There are "large" concentrations of them in the northern Channel Islands during periods of intense upwelling and krill production.

Chris- Very nice. I've never seen sperm whales anywhere near that close. Impressive.QUOTE]

this is a bit closer! have a couple of images taken after this just before "impact". got to remember that when looking through a 15 mm lens things are a bit closer than they appear.

I am assuming if you know the exact age of the baby, that you saw it being born? That would be neato... I've never pictures of a baby whale being born ('cept killer whales, which are really dolphins).

Could you post some pics of the birth, if you have any?

The time of birth was estimated based on the first sighting from the surface when blood was seen and then the baby was spotted. I got to the sight about two hours later. This is one of the first images I shot.

I'd really like to see a blue. Must be amazing to see something that big.

Of course, these spearm whales are compeltely outstanding too. Try to get a picture of a white one.

chris, these are fantastic, real nice job!!!!!!!! good to see you still out shooting, havent talked to you in a while. hope all is well for you!!!!

Thanks Jim, I realized I was not diving enough and therefore getting rusty. So I dug my way out of the snow in Japan and returned to Guam and Gin clear bathwater!

Now just to get my hands on some new strobes. My old one just don't cut the mustard ony more. I want MORE control!

Where were these taken?? Probably the most beautiful pictures i have ever seen. I would like to hang them in a series of three.
