A FATHER-of-two has lost his leg after being bitten by a shark in Australia’s northeast.
Glenn Dickson, who has a third tot on the way, came close to death after the shark mauled his leg when he jumped into the water at Hinchinbrook Island, off the coast of north Queensland.

But the keen spear fisherman’s life was saved thanks to quick-thinking friends who dragged him from the water and stemmed the flow of blood before rushing him to shore.
The young man, whose third baby is due in June, is now in a critical but stable condition but lost his right leg, The Cairns Post reported.
Friends have banded together to support the dad, who suffered multiple bites to his femur and calf, losing consciousness as he was rushed to shore.

In a Go Fund Me appeal for the injured man, a friend wrote: “Glenn has a long battle ahead with his recovery after a shark bite to his leg – an attack that could have potentially been fatal if it wasn’t for the quick thinking of his good mates whilst out on a leisurely fishing trip in the beautiful North Queensland.”
Describing the man as a “dedicated father” and a loving partner to his fiancee Jessie, the fundraising page appeals for support for the family now facing medical bills on top of everyday life.
It said: “To be able to take this burden off of this wonderful family would help in some ways, ease the pain of watching the man they love tackle the biggest emotional and physical hurdle of his life.”
It is believed that he was bitten by a bull shark or a tiger shark with local media reporting that swimmers nearby witnessed the terrifying attack.
More than AUD$15,000 (GPB£9,000) has now been raised for the dad.

Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) spokesman senior operations supervisor Neil Noble said that the story was one of “remarkable” survival.
He said: “This gentleman came so close to death in such a remote location.
“But with the systems in place, having people on the boat who knew what to do, and doing that very quickly, having the paramedics at the ready and the rescue helicopter carrying blood … to fly him to Cairns hospital in such a quick space of time — this is a really remarkable story.”
