I was invited to speak today to the entire third grade at Jo Ann Ford Elementary school in Georgetown about the largest ecosystem in the world, the ocean, as part of their natural sciences studies. Bright eyed and very inquisitive, kids today are really tuned in to their world. We discussed everything from sharks (a favorite topic) to coral reefs and everything in between.

As a diver, you should consider doing a presentation about your hobby to the future stewards of the oceans. The kids are fascinated and hang on your every word.

Contact Oceans for Youth Foundation - Oceans For Youth: Educational Website for Kids of All Ages - for a DVD designed for these presentations and bring along your gear as they enjoy seeing the cool stuff.

Yup, there's great value in providing some time, experiences, videos and pix to groups like the one you describe. I've been doing the same thing as a representative of the FGBNMS for about eight years now. It works to do the same type of programs (abeit on a higher level) for teachers and other professional educators, too. (They spread the word to their kids and co-workers, etc...and the circle gets exponentially larger.)
Thanks for donating your time and efforts! As a teacher myself, I can tell you we appreciate it.
