I just don't log dives
I have 2 Scuba Pro Mark V first stages.
I'm told that one is a 3000 PSI yoke while the other is a 2500 PSI yoke.
They look identicle....so what's different about these regs that makes them spec out differently?
Can the 2500 PSI be upgraded or rebuilt to make it a 3000 PSI reg?
If not, can it still be used with full AL80's with 3000 PSI rating?

The MK5 was produced with three different yokes over its course of production. The earliest was a noticably light looking yoke and used a 3/8ths inch yoke screw. The next was a somewhat heavier looking yoke with a 7/16ths inch yoke screw. The one yoke I have of this vintage has "3000" stamped in its base. Scubapro is now saying these yokes are limited to 2475 psi service. The final production models use the current 9/16ths inch yoke screw and are marked in the upper portion of the yoke "3000 psi". I use the modern yokes at pressures up to 3500 psi. I continue to use the 7/16th yoke at 3000 psi. I do not have any of the 3/8ths yokes. Older yokes can be replaced with modern Scubapro yokes but it may be very difficult to find the smooth chrome finish versions any more.

Waiting on the forum encyclopedia (DA) to chime in........:)

Awap said it. The older shiny chrome yokes are getting hard to find, but the current sp yokes work just fine - they just don't match the regulator body.

The concern with the thinner yokes is the potential to stretch under pressure which could create enough gap to allow the tank valve o-ring to extrude.

Cool beans.
I was concerned that there might be a mechanical difference vs. a structural difference.
Repalcing is a yoke is fairly simple task.
I can probably find one cheap on eBay.

I just converted my MkV to DIN & have a 1978 3000 psi chrome yoke assembly from it.

I thought the MKV DIN connectors were "unobtainium" parts? Something about them needing a different DIN than the MK10 and later models. Do you have a part number or other pointer to what you got?

Thanks

Henrik

I got one that had been sitting on a dive shop shelf for years :D

Oh thanks ... that's a great help  Just kidding - congrats on a great find. I guess my search continues.

Now, DIN for MK10 1st stages - as far as I understand - are easier to come by. Correct?

Henrik

Yes, the Mk 10 uses the standard "universal din connection that SP uses on everything besides the Mk 5.
