Well, the Tallahassee Scuba Club had a great time down in Pompano. We had 9 divers take the trip down, and some of us got in 6 dives over 2 days. We dove with South Florida Diving Headquarters all weekend, and although it was a cattle boat, it was ok. The captain and divemasters did a good job. My only complaint would be picking better dive spots. I get tired of reefs.

On the first day we did a wreck, the Ancient Mariner, which was nice sized with lots of swimthroughs, and plenty of life. Visibility was 30-40, temp was low 70s, and waves were small. After that we did a "drift" on a reef, but the current wasnt much so it wasnt much drifting. The reef isnt as pretty as Keys reefs either. MOstly coral, but not as many fish.

After lunch, we headed back out and did another "drift", which was actually a swim with lots of surge. We dove an inshore reef, which contains the Copenhagen wreck. Its also called the Pompano dropoff. Depth is max 20ft, and its kind of ugly. The wreckage is spread all over, and is kind of cool, but everything is brown. On all these drifts you tow a flag, which makes for a pain. I managed to snag it on 3 buoys and 1 boat along the way. 4th dive of the day was in the same area.

Day 2 we headed out to even calmer seas, and dove the Aqua Zoo which was probably the best dive of the weekend. Viz was similar, but they used to do feedings hear so life is plentiful. This is a overturned barge with lots of concrete tubes along one side. Max depth was 70. Immediately upon gettign to the bottom, we came accross a massive jewfish, then a free swimming huge green Moray. Then a sea turtle swam out from under the wreck. Then a huge sting ray! This place was just teeming. We swam around the wreck and inside, and had a great time.

The second dive of the day was Crab Cove, a reef with 60ft depth, and it was much prettier than the previous days. We saw a spotted moray, and some spiny lobster as well as the usual tropicals.

All in all it was a great weekend, and heres some pics to make you salivate. They are from a disposable so excuse the quality.

Sounds like fun, I'm still waiting on my chance to dive the East Coast.
