I have never experienced this before, but today, after doing two dives, actually after the first one, my nipples are really sore and tender. They just hurt and burn like the dickens, and I cannot even have a t-shirt on right now.

Gads.... what questions to post.....

Two questions: Is there any type of ointment to help heal them? Secondly, what do people do to avoid this problem to begin with?

I dont get it. I am average build, so not unduly large there; but these pups hurt so bad right now, I cannot imagine diving again without some type of remedy.

Hey I like a good joke as much as the next guy.. and this post is a good one! None the less, I will bite (or nibble at least)..
try this:
http://www.uddercream.com/products.html
Its also the best hand cream I have ever seen although it wil raise a few eyebrows if you use it in public.

Thanks for the link -- I wish this was a joke. I wonder if this cream would actually prevent the problem. Funny, but I dove the same Blue Hole during certification for two straight days two weeks ago in the same brand and size wetsuit and never experienced anything remotely like this.

Same brand and size, or THE SAME ONE?
An older suit may have deteriorated, or may have been cleaned in a solution that doesn't agree with your skin, or maybe soaked in a bleach solution and not completely rinsed...

There are any of a dozen things that can cause neoprene to cause irritation.

Reason #47 to avoid rentals and buy your own as soon as practical.

At times I've used some sports tape (or Band-Aids) to "X" out my nipples before a dive or a jog. Keeps them from getting irritated/chafed on various materials. Definitely looks like I'm some nutcake when my shirt is removed, but a little preventive medicine goes a long way.

Now that your nips are a bit ruffed-up, I'd just suggest some Aloe or Lotion (handcreme) and two Bandaids. GOODLUCK!! You'll feel better in the morning!!

Also try two frosty beers, that should do the trick? (I recommend Schlitz, it's a classic, it was good enough for your dad, it's good enough for you! plus it made Milwaukee famous) Alcohol solves a slue of life's problems (unfortunately, about as many as it creates)

cheers

teat balm works. I don't need it, I'm a manly man and I'll just take it.

First time I've ever recommended this to a man - LOL.

The finest nipple cream - usually recommended for nursing mothers - is called Lansinoh.

Highly recommended. see www.lansinoh.com

Try taking the rings out before you dive. LOL...Had this prob with other gear but not wet suits. One of the little spot bandaids works well but will prolly fall off under water. Gonna have to fall back on the tried and true Duct Tape! Should help.

If you would quit pulling on them, they probably would not be tender before diving. LOL

I have not had the pleasure of your paticular problem, but I bet it SUCKS!!!! I just had to reply when I read this one.

I hope you know you just open yourself up for a Whole bunch of replies. And they want be the helpful type either. GOOD LUCK my friend!!!!!!!
