Hello...

I am currently an instructor in central PA. I am looking for more places to dive. I'm tired of diving the old quarries around me. I have been to Dutch Springs, Baine Bridge, Raystown Lake, and so on. The quarries are just getting real old. Can someone give me suggestions on where to dive? Honestly I'm interested in some REAL dive sites not artificial. I haven't been to Lake Erie. Does anyone know of a good outfit with good prices? Any other suggestions?

thanks,

Mike

Hmmmm....how far are you willing to travel? The Atlantic is full of REAL dive sites.

And welcome to the board!

I would suggest that you visit the sub-forums in the "regional travel & dive clubs". The people in some of the regional groups should be able to help you. Check the site out and you should find people in almost every area of the world, who can help you.

Mike,

Heard a spot recently that sounded good plus I can suggest one from experience.

The St. Lawrence Seaway up around Clayton and Brockville offers great diving... does get warm enough for me until July at least but offers a really good diving. Helen at Abuc's offers a deal with hotel, breakfast and lunch + 2 dives. There's also shore dives as well. Easy enough to get 3 or 4 dives per day. Runs $150 CDN dbl. occ.

Tobermory also looks interesting as well but I have no first hand knowledge.

Got a strong recommendation for Lake Erie, boat I think is the Osprey or something or other.

Mike,

You'll definately like Tobermory, CAN. Great shore diving off light house point, Big and Little Tub Harbor, and charters out to some great wrecks: Arabia, City of Cleveland, Forest City, Wetmore, and others. Plenty of lodging at Big Tub Lodge or in town. Tobermory is at the tip of the Bruce Pen. between Lake Huron and Georgian Bay. BTW, welcome to the board.

I'll second (or third?) the St Lawrence Seaway. Get on I81 and head North. When you hit the Canadian border you've arrived.

My recommendation is Kevin and Edie on Seeway Vision www.diveseewayvision.com

Thanks for your input. I will start researching some of these. I just ordered my Whites Catalyst and hoping it will be in Monday. I'M EXCITED!!!

Mike

I am from PA and I know what you mean

The St Lawrence river is probably your answer. Brockville, Mallorytown etc. The vis and temps are usually good to great and there are lots of wrecks. Some huge ones too. There are also wooden ships. A lot of history. Scrounge dives too.

Start here http://www.divetech.ca/flash/index.html I have been there many, many times.

Most operators have web sites.

In Niagara Falls, try Captain Bills http://www.captainbillsdiving.com/pageDisplay.jsp?pageid=6624

Kingston and Tobermory are great too. Worth the trip. in Tobermory try http://www.diversden.ca/

I hope that this helps.
