For the first time I am traveling solo to Cozumel. I have always done the couples thing in a condo or house in town , diving each day. My husband cannot take time this winter but I feel the need to dive so..I am going alone. I need some advice on what might be the best place to stay, I like going into town for dinner so walking distance is a plus. If it has a pier, I need to be able to have my dive Op of choice pick me up. I plan on the 1st week of February. I am looking forward to a bit of solitude and lots of great diving. I have read this forum for the past weeks and am looking forward to a few opinions. Thanks!:blinking:

Well, not all dive ops will pick you up all the way in town... who do you dive with?

Last Feb. we stayed at Casa Mexicana and loved it... it's in town (all the way south) so you can walk to just about anywhere. Excellent breakfast buffet included in the price.

Our dive op of choice, Blue XT~Sea picked us up at the "aldora" pier which is about a block away. Other hotels right there are Vista Del Mar & Suites Bahia which are a bit cheaper but have heard are very nice.

I mentioned Caribe Blu/Blue Angel to another poster earlier today. Caribe Blu allows some ops to pick up at their pier, if you aren't diving with Blue Angel, but I don't know how extensive the list is. But it's a bit pricey to stay at Caribe Blu during high season if you are solo. If money is an issue, and you are interested in some lower cost options in town let me know and I'll point you a couple of directions, since I have often gone solo to Coz. You will need to make your way to a pick-up location (unless you luck out and the op picks you up, which Living Underwater did for me, since I was on the way from Jeremy's house to the Caleta). In which case I'd recommend that you go with an op that either keeps/rinses all your gear for you or has good on-site locker storage (Blue Angel does).

I thought Dive with Martin was fantastic....they had this small "at your service " approach.

You could probably even pay a little extra and get your own DM "buddy" private tour within the charter...if I was alone I might do that if I wanted to do more challenging dives, and only diving a couple days. I really don't like random buddies unless I am with others that I know and "we" are aquiring them.

I stayed at the Americana..it was reasonable, not generally my kind of place..but very comfortable if you were alone..safe, not isolated..etc.

Dive with Martin picked us up right there. Took care of all the gear, etc. Loved Guido's.

yes...walking distance would be better though.

Safari Inn at $45 per night is a great deal and right downtown. Don't know if they let other ops use their pier (which is right across the street).

In my opinion, there are no unsafe places in Cozumel. I walk and/or bicycle all over the place, by myself, day or night. I NEVER feel unsafe. It's probably one of the safest places in the world.

Thanks for the advice so far. I dive with Albatros Charters. They are located a little north of Town. MMM, I would like to hear your suggestions for lower cost intown.

The El Marques is right at the south end of the Plaza on 5th. I think their rates are $45 per night. Very nice people but all rooms on 2nd to 4th floor and no elevator. Cocos restaurant on the first floor opens at 6 for breakfast and is run by a very friendly lady named Terri. She married into the family that owns the hotel.

Right across is the Colonial 75 per with elevator.

several others in the neighborhood. You might try a B&B there are several and you will enjoy the company of others in a more home like setting. Just do a search on Goggle or some of the other Cozumel sites for a list. MMM I know has stayed at one hope she contacts you about them.

You should send a PM to Scubasherry. Albatros set them up with a B&B that sounded great and was affordably priced.

I had my first solo Cozumel trip (and first solo dive trip) this past May and it was fabulous. 8 days completely to myself with nobody else to consider was so relaxing and enjoyable that I hope I can do it again next year. You are going to love it! Cozumel is a very easy place for women to travel alone. I walked around in the evenings on my own (including back into town beyond the tourist areas), went to restaurants, etc., and never felt unsafe or uncomfortable. Of course, like anywhere, use common sense and pay attention to what's going on around you. Cozumel is a very safe and friendly place.

I recommend Hotel Pepita------one block behind the square on 15th avenue.......$35 includes tax-------AC, cable TV, two double beds, fridge!, free morning coffee in the lobby, and a big courtyard area where many divers hang out, so it would be easy to meet other folks. I have several single women clients who wouldn't stay anywhere else.
