This Saturday, a Corrézien lost his life in Marcilhac-sur-Célé, in the Lot, in the resurgence of Ressel, where other accidents have already occurred. This 59-year-old man was doing a solo exploration dive. He was found, lifeless, by another caver early in the morning.
This Saturday, firefighters and gendarmes were mobilized in Marcilhac-sur-Célé where a caving accident occurred. This one happened in the resurgence of the Ressel, where many dramas have already happened.
Around 8:30 a.m., a 59-year-old Corrézien was found unresponsive by another speleologist. The almost sixty-year-old was going out alone. He was found 600 meters from the entrance to the resurgence, and 50 meters deep.
The man was soon found dead. According to initial information, the victim had been on site since Friday evening but, for the moment, it is impossible to estimate at what time he dived. At the end of the afternoon, the body of the deceased was still stuck in the resurgence. Two cavers from the Secours Français were preparing to make a first reconnaissance in the evening. This operation could take long hours, especially since the Lot is placed on yellow alert for thunderstorms on Saturday evening, which could cause some difficulties. The ascent of the body will, surely, take place only during the day of Sunday.
For its part, the gendarmerie will open an investigation to discover the circumstances of this tragic accident. Findings will be made as soon as the body is brought to the surface. All devices, such as bottles, will be combed through.
