If I want to lock horns I'll sign up again on rec.scuba ;-)

Later

where do you think I learned how to lock-horns. ;-)

What I meant by that is I like to challenge your thinking because in the process I can learn something about DIR. I do actually think you have something of value to offer....... If *you* learn something in the process then good but I don't expect you to be open to argumentation at this point. You're too committed to the DIR paradigm to be open to anything and I know it.

BTW I've seen the way you get trashed on rec.scuba. It's not pretty but it's not really fair either. rec.scuba isn't really a diving forum. Its a dumping ground for the deeply disturbed who occasionally scuba dive. I've always wondered why you keep going back for more...... letting them rot in their little cesspool seems like a perfectly appropriate thing to do.....

Communicating to your "buddy" that you are low on air and s/he doing nothing about it but continue to dive IMO is a solo dive....but hey...that is my opinion and I am entitled to it.

I've done this on many occasions. But I've always let my buddy know about this in the pre-dive. 100% of the time. I guess that portion of the dive would make me a solo diver sort of speak. I know my air supply is most likely going to outlast theirs. However; if this is simply and so simply not discussed ahead of time. I just look at it as a dumba$$ buddy and nothing short of that.

If I ever get out of teaching...I'm going to be an endorser of solo diving....:D With the proper training or gear config. anyway.:)

It takesd two to make a buddy team fail. Frankly I just don't leave my buddy behind....or let him go to the surface alone.

We have split up teams of three before and dropped someone off at the dock while the other two continued to dive, but we do try to keep everyone paired with at least 1 other person all the time.

I just don't think the risk of being alone underwater is worth it.

What about the pumpkin carving contest in 2002? That would have made about 8 or 10 solo divers I think. Nobody had a buddy during the carving.

You are right....that was a little different....10 people on 1 platform all with knives and such, I'm surprised no one lost a hose...especially anyone near AJ's machete/rambo survival knife she was using....however, if either my brother or buddy would have come over and said "we need to surface" I wouldn't have thought twice about it. That is what makes a team work...communication. You are correct though...situational awareness was about zilch.

if you remember though...my brother and I were the only "team carved" pumpkin with the Dive Naked theme....

There is no evidence that she was naked....it was a well-rounded outline

Now we might have had some subliminal message on the other side of the pumpkin.....

Would "Dive Naked" be subliminal? You know there is a Naked Dive Club out of Houston. I couldn't do it. I mean..Fish are trained to go after worms....

O.K...I could say a lot here, but I'm not goign to....yeah, I'm sure what I'm thinking would get moderated.

A specialty that has never caught on further north...
