Forgive my ignorance, but what's a matchbook?

I think he means an Apple Macintosh MacBook Pro.
Might be of use to know what year the notebook is, and what version of the Mac OS X it's running.

Which IRDA reader is chosen will depend on whether your MAC has an intel processor or not. An intel processor MAC will use the IR 778. A non-intel MAC can use the BF-7030 reader.
