I'm a Fish!
OK so this can be in the whine and cheese but we may be able to have a better discussion here if we try to keep it somewhat technical.

I personally have 2 problems.

1) At home for personal use I have a Mac and would not use anything but. My company uses all PCs at work. (yes, a Mac is a problem)
2) I have to run Parallels with Mac to use any software program for dive computers.

I use the Suunto DM program for my Vyper Air and of course I have to run it through Parallels. Without Parallels, I am dead in the water. I did download the new DM4 for use with a Mac but it is a complete bust as many of the functions on the old program are not available on the new one and I have yet to figure out how to print or delete a dive/file.

I have a Galileo Luna that I cannot download because I need an IrdA device and after reading about them, I still don't know which one will work with a Mac.

Basically, the dive computer industry has yet to recognize the Mac based community which is very strong and loyal. There are reasons to use a Mac and there are reasons not to. I use both but at home, Mac is my choice for personal/graphic/music/video stuff.

So then I purchased MacDive and that too is a bust for me since I cannot seem to get my computer to recognize my dive computer. I don't think that I can import files from my other programs either. So basically without Parallels or a PC, it is almost useless to try to use a Mac with a dive computer. Maybe I should start downloading my dives at work.

But still, the software for dive computers can be a lot better, more user friendly and have more options. I do like the MacDive but without being able to download from my Vyper Air, what is the point.

Just about every software out there has a fully functional Mac program. When will the dive computer companies follow suit?

The dive log software for the Xen and Xeo is Mac-OS compatible. Some companies DO realize the importance of Macs.

I have looked at your computers in the past and think that they are top notch. Unfortunately I have this thing about wireless pressure transmitters as I love it in my dive log when I print it out and glancing at my pressure in the same screen as my other info. Any idea on transmitters in the future? Would buy one tomorrow if you did. Not joking. It is just something that I really love to have.

With regard to the MacDive issue, you're probably just having a problem with the USB driver. Did you install the correct one for the cable you own?

If you have already installed the appropriate driver and still can't get it to work, contact the developer for MacDive directly. He's very accessible.

The MacDive website lists the Suunto Vyper Air as a compatible device. The software works great for a lot of us. I have never liked SDM.

My USB cable works great with Parallels through my Mac. When used with macdive not through Parallels, it does not. Not sure how I can install a driver for mac when it already works on this machine. The cable is from Suunto so I dont think they have a mac driver for their cable. or do they? Don't know what I am doing.

Step #1: Visit the MacDive website.
Step #2: Navigate to the download page for Suunto dive computer USB drivers. (Devices-Suunto-Download Required Drivers)
Step #3: Select "Official Suunto USB Cable Dowload Driver."
Step #4: Depending on the CPU architecture on your machine, download and install the appropriate FTDI driver.
Step #5: Restart your computer.
Step #6: Open up MacDive, connect your Vyper Air using the Suunto cable, and see if you can download your dive profiles.

Shearwater Predator downloads to MACs via Bluetooth. Works perfectly.
