freediver:
hey FreeFloat, just curious, do you have freediving equipment and if so what do you use?
Yes, I do, some stuff. I have a one-piece 7mm former-scuba wetsuit I use exclusively for freediving - it fits me like it was painted on (very slim). I also have a low-volume mask (actually use one for scuba too) and Sporasub H Dessault fins (love my fins)

scubafool:
I don't do much of it anymore, but I was into freediving Florida Springs a while back. My personal best was 60 feet, but keep in mind that was at a spring with a very strong upflow. It seems as though scuba has pretty much taken over my life, though.
Man, you sound just like me. My scuba:freediving ratio is currently somewhere around 4:1 even though I took up freediving first! My PB depth is currently 60' as well, but I blame that on how dark it was at that depth and me without my can light :D ......

Mine is probably 10:1 at this point. I really like freediving, but I like scuba even more, and trying to get proficient at it takes up all of my available dive time. Every once in a while when me & the family head to the springs I will do a few freedives, but nothing like the every weekend spending hours in the water that I used to do.

does everyone freedive mostly ocean? any freshwater? I've done most of mine in a quarry and we do simulated 150 - 180 foot dives. By the way, FreeFloat, the Dessault is my fin of choice also. Hard to beat. My mask is a Sporasub Spartak which is a fantastic mask for anyone who has trouble with mask seals (facial hair in my case).

me... mostly inland lake diving, some quarries. The lakes are exciting as it usually can get pretty dark by 40' and not unusual to lose sight of your 1/2" drop line past 70' or even shallower, lately I've been taping lights to the rope shining up.. helps with the psych of going into the blackness.. It's a treat to dive daylight beyond the 70' mark as we get sometimes in the quarries... just that they're 100's of miles away... :06:, so most of the time it's the blackness of fresh water for me.
my preferred fins go between the sporasub pures and the cressi garas hf's. for masks lately the samourai, cressi mini or the mares target. But it's all about looks so I've been giving the nod to the sporasub samourai elite more often than not (+ it is a good mask too).

yes the Pure's are a great pair of fins, wish i could find in open heel since i can't wear full foot (size 14w). I got my 8 year old son a Sporasub Samurai to dive with (are we obsessed or what?). I know what you're saying about the freshwater, can be a bit unnerving going into a black environment. I attach a light on the side of my mask, helps a bit.
