I think the biggest thing in being a good diver is humility, and a profound respect for the water.

Personal diving skills (buoyancy, propulsion, communication and awareness) can be learned and improved with practice, but someone who is reckless or careless or cocky may not improve, no matter how much time and experience he gets.
