Say i like staying in the 60 foot range and I do not really care about diving to 100 foot what other certifications can I get (PADI) without being AOW, or must I get my AOW before anything else?

Bryan

AOW doesn't require you to always do deep dives. At the most you'll have to do a somewhat deep dive, though I believe anything over 60' works (i.e., 70 feet). After you have that, you can get Rescue, Nitrox, and any of the more frivolous specialties.

You need the deep dive (up to 100') for AOW. You need AOW for rescue or DM. You can take many of the "adventure" dives and most specialty certs though.

So my AOW will act as a pre-requsite to everything else?

hehehe ain't that the truth....silliness

Nothing frivolous about Rescue, child.

You can get Nitrox without Aow, but for Rescue, then DM, you'll need Aow. The Deep Dive on my Aow training was to 65 ft as we had a minor in the group, but then - my Aow was a joke anyway.

If you don't want to go beyond 65 ft, discuss this with your Inst. :thumb:

Well basically what I want out of my diving career for purely pleaseure. Just some wrecks and som rec fun. Maybe Nitrox cert also. Just wasn't sure how the Dive tree was laid out.

I've met tons of rescue certified divers who I would not want anywhere near me in an emergency situation.

That being said, I do plan to take the course.

If you do not want to go deep, stay shallow! I don't plan on going over 80' on singles anyway. In most cases there is plenty to see in the happy shallows.
