Hi Folks,
I have a simple question, and to avoid reading 595 pages of posts here, I'll just ask it. (I did browse around, so as not to be a slacker)
What is the etiquette here for adding other folks as friends. I have only added 1 person as a friend so far, but I have had a request to be added as a friend by a manufacturer that left me a comment. (The comment was welcomed), but I do not necessarily want to crowd up my friend space with folks that I am really not interested in. But I do not want to slap them by declining them either. So what is the common courtesy for keeping peace and maintaining my user CP representing me the way I want without ticking anyone off or offending them. I just don't want to tear a hole in my goody bag before I get goodies in it. Thanks!

Hi Greg,

There's no limit on your friend space, and it doesn't really do anything other than connect you to another user, so I'm not sure why this would "tear a hole in your goody bag"?

Some members have 1 or 2 friends, while others have as many as 4,900.

We don't have a news feed feature like FB that connects you to friends so that you can keep up with them that way, so adding a friend on SB is just an expression of appreciation as well as shortcut so that you can click on their username quickly to get to their Profile page easily straight from your own Profile page. It's sort of like putting somebody's phone number in the phone book of your cell as a convenience in case you want to contact that person--you put it there, but at some point you may forget who that person is and why they're listed, and at that point you can edit the list if you want. Add away with no hesitation!

I regard friending someone on SB as a deep emotional commitment to someone who I will likely never meet or even know their real name. A bit like internet porn.

Actually... we do have that. Click on your username to view your profile, then the "Friends" Tab.

ScubaBoard is cyberdiving / pub diving. The real action is at Facebook. While I've managed to put together a few dives with the help of SB, most of my diving is organized on Facebook.

Yeah, I guess that's true, Howard. I just never considered it a live feed like in FB since you have to go look for it--it's not right there on whatever SB page you're reading. I very rarely go to my own profile page without a specific reason, and that's the only time I actually see that friends-posts tab.

It's not quite the same thing. That's a list of all the posts your friends have made in various threads. The context is different. FB wall is all the things they start or things they repost.

Thanks for being my personal watchdog

I limit my friends on this site.... I don't want to be known as a " EASY DIVE " .... I don't just go down with anyone...
