:dork2: yeah that's me.

Took the wife out on our boat today (her first time on the boat... just got it a month ago). Back at the ramp, we pull the boat out and start unloading it. She handed me the GPS unit, I put it in it's bag, and set it on the starboard gunwale, then proceed to help her down off the boat. And I forgot about the GPS.

8 miles down the road I remember that I left it sitting up there, so we turn around to search for the GPS at the ramp parking lot. I'm in a panic. Well, wife spots it sitting on the side of the road!! :) I was excited and thought maybe I'd been saved, but when she picked it up off the pavement, I discovered it had been run over. :shakehead: Did I mention that both my primary, and my backup GPS were in the bag!!?? Needless to say, neither device made it. Screen busted, antenna broken off... it's ugly.

It was a Garmin GPSmap 276c, and I had just bought the SW Florida DataCard, for $150. Fortunately, the DataCard is not damaged.

So, I'm looking for a new GPS for the boat, and I'm hoping to get some suggetions. Here are my requirements:

  • Must be a Garmin
  • Must take the Garmin DataCard (not the SD card) so I can use the one I have
  • Plan to spend $300-450. I'm open to a refurbed or even slightly used model, if it works well.
Any ideas for this clutz?

63 views, and no one has any words of condolences or suggestions!!??

Another nice thing would be to get a new GPS that uses the same cords/battery as my old one. At least then I'd have a 2nd set.

I am sorry for you. But I cannot give much advice on the GPS.
However I once found a Garmin Etrex GPS on the side of the road in good condition. No luck finding the owner and Home waypoint not found.

That really bites!

I may have found it for $409 ... EBigBuys
I dont know anything about the company

You could also search for any Garmin GPS that uses the Garmin Datacard

I did the same thing with my wallet one time, but had better results. Left it on the side of the pontoons of the boat, drove off & went 40 miles, before missing it. Drove back to the parking lot, which was also shared with a " Bikers hang-out bar & grill." Not found in the lot, so went inside the bar & the bartender said that someone had turned it in. All $140 was in it. I needed that cash to get back home, too. Guy wouldn't take a tip !

Sorry to hear that. Did you get a new one? I lost the GPS book and now use charts, my eyes and my teeny-tiny brain. But after I score my DIVE BUDDY, the gear, a UW Camera & UW Propulsion Vehicle, that'll be next on my Christmas list in 2010.

Sorry to hear about your mishap. I have a garmin model 172C for sale; i just haven't gotten around to listing it yet. The maps are for SE florida, but sounds like that wouldn't be an issue since you still have your data card. It's a 2004 model and is in good condition. PM me if you're interested.
