Dove on Fran Marceaux's boat for PM charter out of Gloucester. We had intended to dive Burnham Ledge but they ended up diving Saturday night Ledge as 1st dive.
For those not familiar with SNL, it's a a unique rock formation off of Gloucesters coast with huge cracks to explore. The mooring is attached to a boulder in 80 feet of water, channels and grooves 3 foot to 15 foot deep radiate all around. Maximum depth is about 130, shallowest point is about 80 feet. Spiny sun stars (starfish) up to 7 , unusual Badge stars and Basket Stars are some of the inhabitants. There were some spiny dogfish school which is common in summer months. Water at depth was 48 degrees on this dive and vis was fabulous at depth. 30-40 feet? Wish had gone with Nitrox as diving air limted bottom time. It was a short dive due to depth.
2nd dive was Poling. It was my 3rd time on her. Again, great vis. The seas were a bit rougher as got back on boat. I managed to keep my lunch down. 48 degrees at depth, 52-53 on surface.
As had 3rd tank, did a nice mini dusk dive off Cat rocks. The north side was completely calm like a lake and vis was great! 30-40 feet?? It was my first time diving Cat rocks at low tide and it wasn't a problem getting in and out. Would never attempt if any wave action.
All in all, a beautiful way to spend afternoon/evening.
Now to rinse the gear..
