I'd have to put readers, on my readers for something that close to my mask.:cool2:

Would that make you a "psychic" reader. LOL!!!!

No guage readers needed or eye strain on the visual of the Datamask... I had one for a while. The difference in distance from the eye to the view screen between the Datamask & the new HUD is about 2",... maybe 3" at most.
I think Shearwater is referring to the optical distance, not the physical distance. It's possible to set up the optics so something physically very close to your eye focuses as if it were a long ways off. In this case they say the optical distance is about twelve feet. It's a fairly well known setup, and is pretty ideal for gauges you want to read while maintaining focus on more distant objects.

That's two Petrels and then some. Can it act as a controller?

I'm a die-hard Shearwater guy, but what I see is some technology that will add 20% to the base price of the rebreather on which the NERD replaces equipment. It's a pricey unit for sure.
