Not going to bother bringing it, it was just a mild consideration (after thinking of the dehydrating effect of alcohol) and simple question posed a few nights ago to gauge peoples experiences.
This is wrong. The penalties in Indonesia (and Singapore, and Malaysia) do include death for drug traffickers, but they are in fact dependent on how much you're carrying; indeed, you will be presumed a trafficker if you possess more than a certain amount. Simple possession can get you 1 to 5 years in Indonesia. In many places in Southeast Asia, there is an insidiously casual attitude towards drug use, which can lead the naive tourist into risky behavior. There are anecdotes of western tourists coerced into entrapping their fellow countrymen in return for more lenient treatment. If you're smart--and able--you'll take a week or two off from your drug habit when vacationing in Southeast Asia.In some places, the punishment is either severe or terminal like Indo where you enter under the big sign that says punishment for drug trafficking, and that would be carrying any amount not just over some amount like the US, is death.
Not going to bother bringing it, it was just a mild consideration (after thinking of the dehydrating effect of alcohol) and simple question posed a few nights ago to gauge peoples experiences. But thanks for all the dogmatic opinions and horror stories.
And yet you felt the need to throw out religion bashing and insults in multiple posts (removed by mods) and made pot smoking comments in a completely unrelated thread.
No, it was not an innocent question. It was an attempt by a troll to create drama.
I hate to get involved in an argument about the argument, but, to be fair, there were some posts--since deleted--that were far from dispassionate advice, were insulting to the OP, and seemed to be deliberately conceived to provoke the sort of response that they did. So there's blame to go around for the train wreck, in my opinion.Unless it was in the messages thrown out, there were no dogmatic opinions or horror stories. We merely told you "hey, dude, it's illegal and some people are definitely going to treat it that way, and some governments will KILL you for it." A couple people told you to stay the hell away from them because they can't be exposed at all, regardless of your own interpretation of their risk.
There was nothing but facts there, and you shouldn't be surprised by them.
The "hung up on legalities" was a snip of a fuller sentence completely taken out of context by a mod editing the original post.
