Small Wing Recommendations

Although have not seen a Halcyon wing up close, to me they certainly look similar to the Hollis, or Hollis look similar to the H, just out of curiosity would it be possible to the use the removable "roll control tabs" that come with the Hollis on the H wing?

I have a Halcyon and "roll control tabs" will not work. The Hollis wing has slots for the cambands to pass through, the H wing does not. The H wing requires a proper STA where the cambands can pass through. There are some travel STAs that would probably work. The H wing is pretty flexible and can be rolled.

I have both the 18 and the 30 Oxy Mach V wings. For warm water I much prefer the 18. The 18 does, as you can imagine, quickly run out of lift capacity for those divers who bring the kitchen sink with them. Frankly, I wish he made a 12 pound. The 30 is fine for temperate diving with 3/5 wetsuits etc. and is noticeably larger and heavier.

The slow venting, what slow venting?

I've also not noticed any issue with slow venting. These wings are about as heavy duty as they come. It is my experience that the 30lb wing is good for a 7mm suit with a steel 100 tank in freshwater or salt. Not sure weight is a biggie though between the 18lb and the 30lb. Surely not more than a pound. The 18lb is a bit smaller though. If you are that worried about weight just throw out a couple of pair of your wife's shoes. (geez hoping your Mrs. isn't reading this )

The weight difference is only 0.3lbs to get you 40% more lift. If I could get her to leave some shoes behind I would save enough weight to bring my own tank!

The alleged slower venting might result from the thicker bladder and bag materials. I generally dump from the rear pull vent. I would not consider this to be an issue.

Most people that travel are concerned about two things: weight and bulk. Switching from an Oxycheq 30 to a DSS 30 will not save you much in weight but the DSS will pack more compactly as would the Halcyon and I suspect the Hollis. If bulk is not a problem and you may do a cold water dives then try the Oxycheq 40. It is not much bigger that the 30. Add Helium has the extreme version (armored fabric) on special for $320.
