It is not frustrating at all, I enjoy playing with new ideas and getting feed back from others in the process. It has lead to taking the original idea in a new direction I might not have thought of on my own.

Understood. I enjoy DIY but for me there is definitely a point where I get annoyed & the hands go up. OCD will do that to you!!! If it's not perfect it goes in the trash. Make sure to post your final product. I am interested in the result.

I do not think I will need to roll this up but I was wondering what it is made of that the others are not. Is the stiffer shell material a benefit that the others do not have? Is this type of wing better suited to use without a STA? I am not too concerned with a little extra weight as I am saving a lot of weight by attaching it to a commercial diving harness instead of a standard metal backplate.

Rich if possible you should take a look at the wings in person. The DSS wing also lays flat while the Oxycheq wing does not. To me the ultimate travel setup would be a DSS 20lb or 17lb and the Oxycheq travel plate. That would be the smallest and lightest setup. I have a DSS 30lb and an Oxycheq 18. Oxycheqs are great wings but do not pack compactly.

Agree on both counts.

Rich, let me know the next time you come out to Dutch and I will meet you up there...

The Oxy 18 Mach V is an extremely durable wing. I have been using mine on the Oxy ultralite fabric plate now for several years. I lay it in the bottom of my travel bag and pack everything on top, it flattens out just fine. I do not think it could be killed with a stick.

This year I will be using the Oxy 18 with my new VDH aluminum plate (a remake of the old SeaCraft plate).

I really should go out there some time this year, I keep hearing good things about it. Wanted to go this past Labor day weekend to check out some of the vintage surface supplied diving gear but had out of town guests that weekend. The last time I went there was October of 74.

Rich,

When I go to Dutch, it's more for the surface interval than diving. I find that I usually only get two dives in after chatting to all the DNYers. Come on out sometime!

It was not as extensive as I hear it is today, there were training platforms and a few sunken attractions but not many. I was there doing a check out dive in a 1/4" wetsuit and missing one glove so I was not in there too long.

I will have to get there some time this year. Two dives if fine, I have a lot more experience at surface intervals anyway.

Are you talking about Dutch Springs?? Because I dove there is first in probably '76. Thre was no diving allowed, we used to sneek in and dive and I think i avoided being aressted for trespassing (barely) a few times.
