I've been using a Micra for 9 years and I've loved it. I recently added a Seacure mouthpiece and have been happy with that as well.

About the bc...I use a Genisis Athena. It is built for a womans body and is not as pricey as some of the others. There are several features I like about it. Lots of d rings, easy to acess top zip pockets and the integrated weight system is easy for me to handle. ie: load and unload or drop if needed. It also has two back pockets for non-release weights which I have found helps me keep my trim more even. I have felt lopsided at times with weight belts and like being able to distribute the weight at kind of symetrical places on my body. Hope that makes some sense to you... I was having a hard time putting into words exactly what I mean. Maybe someone with more experience can expand on the issue.
I hope you find one you truly like. The thing I have liked least about taking up this sport is the pressure to find and purchase the right gear for me. I have yet to find many ,"try before your buy" opportunites. And ,yes I ask everyone I consider buying gear from. Few of them rent thier better gear and once it's used ,well,it's used. Or so I am told.
Just keep asking until you feel like you are headed in the right direction, this is a great place for that. I have been and am still looking for that just right regulator. People here still discuss it with me even tho sometimes I feel like I am asking the same stuff over and over.

The Genesis Valor is made by the same manufacturer as the US Divers Micra. It is a low profile and very light weight reg. I heard from a Genesis rep that it is being discontinued, so the price will be reduced.

I see you are from Valpraiso. Is that near Destin? I ask because I am headed there next Weekend. My last trip to Destin was a bit of a disappointment because it was to be my first blue water dive, but, there was a hurricane in the gulf so no boats went out.We dove Vortex and that was nice enough,but, for me it was one of those,"Been there done that", experiences. I told you that in hopes you could advise me of the weather conditions expected down there. BTW, if I am wrong and you are no where near enough Destin to help with that info, I am sorry for the rambling story.
Secondly, I read your post on the Genisis Valor. Are you a dealer? Do you have a time frame on when the price might drop? While I was in Destin last year I heard the same rumor about the Sherwood Maximus. Thus far I have not seen it and my LDS, which is a Sherwood dealer says it was just a rumor. The product and the price weren't going anywhere.
Lastly, have you had any experience with the Valor? I am also in the market for a "small comfy reg".

I do all my local diving from Destin, and 80% of that diving is done with "ScubaTech."
Last week the surface temp was 62F and 58F on the bottom. This time of year, the air temp can be 75F one day and 45F the next. Viz was 40 or 50 feet, which is better than average.

I am not a Genesis dealer. I have owned Valor regs (nearly identical to the USD Micra) for almost 2 years, and I think they are very good low priced regs. I don't know if this means anything to you, but the 1st stage is balanced, and the 2nd stage is a "2 adjustment." I cannot discern any change in breathing effort from the surface to 130 fsw. The 2nd is very light and low profile.
I heard about the Valor being discontinued from a Genesis Rep, but I don't know the details. I do know that the Valor is not featured any longer on the Genesis Website.

Thanks for the info. For one thing, I think I'll bring my 7/5 ml suit . It seems like I remember the name scuba tech. I have only been down there one other time. If the weather allows we are diving w/ Emerald Coast. This trip is put together by my dive instructor so I am pretty much riding her coat tails. I am interested in getting to know the area tho. It seems to be the closest ocean diving available to us here in Ky. Therefore , I may need to get to know my way around down there.
I will look into the Valor and thank you for the heads up on it.BTW I am new enough to this sport that any info you have to offer is appreciated. I am trying really hard to comprehend all the differences between..balanced first stages, piston vs.diaphram side exhaust vs anything else....lol.
