i know of some tech instructors that skip pre-requisites based on the inherent skill and knowledge of the students. i even know some instructors that even bypass the iantd deep diver course since it is redundant. i only ask because i was planning on taking the adv rec trimix of iantd but my instructor says that i have enough skill and knowledge to jump to either gue tech 1 or iantd advanced rec trimix. It honestly makes sense to bypass some courses. why waste dough just so you could follow the ladder trail. is this ok? is it the discretion of the Instructor? thanks

The starting point would probably be to check the course requirements. I'd be a bit leery of someone who was telling you that you can skip required courses.

With the GUE Tech I course, that may not be an issue. I believe that DIR-F is required, or at least strongly suggested, but that's it. You don't need Rec Triox to take Tech I.

I don't know enough about IANTD courses to comment.

no prob with gue. was wondering about the iantd way. technically by the book i have to take the deep diver course, then ADV nitrox, then rec trimix before taking the adv rec trimix.

the instructor is also a course director of iantd philippines and is the guy who brought in iantd to the country so im not worried about scams and gimmicks

As long as you end up with the knowledge you´re supposed to at the end up with I don´t see the problem...the only difference between you and someone who followed "the ladder", IMO, is that SOME of the knowledge you need to aquire is experience...

even if you do have "the skills" I´d say that experiencing a few 1st time F-ups in the presence of an instructor is better than doing so alone...If I were you I´d want to make sure that I get something close to the same time in the water as you would otherwise...

If you´re "good enough" use the time to push your comfort zone in the presence of an instructor who can help you set a good pace...

So "jump" as far as you and your instructor feel is prudent but make sure that you get enough time in the water to get you comfortable doing the dives you´re getting certified to do...

just my 2 cents...

Only you will know if you've covered the topics in the missed courses. Adv. Nitrox usually conbines deco proceedures which isn't something I'd want to skip unless I was already solid on it.
