I have a really nice drysuit that is just a bit too small (M/L). I can dive with it, but it is tight between the shoulders and crotch and the neck seal leaks as a result when I move my neck and stretch the suit. I also have a new one (used size L different model diferent brand) I just got that seems to have a similar problem - tight in the crotch if I raise my hands above my head.

My question is this: How much freedom of mobility is right in a drysuit? does it have to be "total" or is a little ball squeeze the norm?

Your suit should allow you full range of movement comfortably. What you describe is not appropriate, particularly if you are uncomfortable while underwater.

in certain tech courses you need to do valve drills ... so you better be able to get a "more than" full range of motion ...

dude. ... your under water ... you should be able to do anything you want under there ... and if your gear stops you? get new gear

I am now the proud owner of TWO very nice dry suits that do not fit me...:shakehead:

Been there, done that. I now have a Whites Fusion that does allow me full range of motion, and once you have dived this way, you'll never be satisfied with less.

You should be able to reach up and back and touch your shoulder blades without constriction.

I can reach them, that's just when the "squeeze" happens... From past experience with drysuit #1, that is also when the neck leaks. :shakehead:
